Virulence Structure of the Wheat Powdery Mildew Population in Serbia

Powdery mildew is a common, economically important disease in the wheat growing area of Serbia. A large-scale virulence survey its causal agent Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici population was performed period 1995–2013. total 1013 isolates were recovered from collected chasmothecial samples. Among them, 862 unique pathotypes identified using differential set 20 lines with known powdery (Pm) resistant genes. The pathogen highly diverse. Number genes (virulence complexity) per isolate large, supporting constant need to extend newly Pm Virulence frequencies Pm6, Pm7, and Pm5+8 high throughout 19-year period, contrast that Pm5+6, which consistently at low level. most significant change observed for Pm2+4b+6 gene combination, an increasing frequency this combination over years.
